CHARACTERISTICS OF THE UNIVERSITY ORGANIZATIONS OFFERING ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS IN USA

TRACK&FIELD SCHOLARSHIPS VTSPORTS

NCAA DIVISION I (NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION)
This division has the highest level of competition in sports than any other division in University athletics and has the most scholarships available. The biggest institutions in the USA belong in this Division.

NCAA DIVISION II
This is made up of smaller Universities, but more specialized. These Universities do not have the same programs as in Div.I but they have become very competitive, some of them even more competitive than Universities from Div. I.

NCAA DIVISION III
In this division it is not allowed to give athletic scholarships but academic scholarships are allowed and sometimes they finance the student-athletes with loans.

NAIA (NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS)
One of the most important differences is that the NAIA requirements to be admitted to the Universities are less restrictive that the requirements of the NCAA. These are smaller universities and highly specialized academically.

NJCAA (NATIONAL JUNIOR COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION)
Mainly small Universities with 2-year degree make up this organization. The students in these colleges must transfer to a four year¨ university to complete their majors. It serves as a springboard for many athletes who have not been admitted to NCAA.
